After some thought, however, I have concluded that I really need to have pieces in hand, to determine the case analysis which best reduces the trial-and-error. For example, I thought I could identify the piece with the "hidden" cubie, but that is no easy task. The remainder of the solution might be reasonable after that point. This is a tough puzzle.
